1.1 Examine the needs of own practice in terms of drawing technique

1.2 Consider the external factors that influence drawing in professional practice

1.3 Reflect on the commercial and artistic opportunities offered by having expertise in particular techniques

1.4 Consider the limitations and constraints of particular techniques

1.5 Select particular drawing techniques for refinementbased on their suitability for the purpose or for a particular brief

2. Refine selected drawing technique

2.1 Establish and follow safe work practices for selected technique

2.2 Extend the capability of the drawing technique

3.3 Evaluate own drawings and reflect on professional development needs and opportunities

3.4 Seek feedback from others on own drawing technique and take action accordingly

Evidence of the ability to:

evaluate and refine a selected drawing technique using practice and experimentation

produce finished drawings for professional work that show technical command and confidence with the selected technique

use reflection and feedback to identify professional development requirements and opportunities.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

list and describe a range of drawing techniques, including the limitations and constraints of each technique

explain the factors that influence selection of drawing technique

explain the criteria that could be used to evaluate one’s own skills in using selected drawing techniques

identify and explain the potential of different techniques to achieve different effects relevant to own area of practice

describe typical problems and challenges in the application of selected techniques

explain the work health and safety considerations for drawing.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

equipment, materials and tools used to produce drawings

interaction with relevant people.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
